2023 MWFF PROGRAMME:

Making Waves No.6 Cinema Take Over 2023

Making Waves Film Festival returned on Thursday 23rd & Friday 24th March 2023 with a No.6 Cinema Takeover.

Fashion Reimagined (2022) – Thursday 23rd March 2023

This documentary is a MUST-watch for anyone concerned with the impact of fast fashion. Not only does this film provide invaluable knowledge about the harmful effects of the fashion industry on the environment, people and communities but tells the story of influential designer Amy Powney who brings such heart to a bummer subject all while designing gorgeous sustainable clothing.

County Lines (2019) – Friday 24th March 2023

Our community curated screening by young people from Motiv8. Included a performance by young people from Music Fusion.

County Lines is a powerful and moving coming-of-age film about a 14-year-old boy who is groomed into a ‘county lines’ criminal network.

Inspired by the stories he heard while mentoring young people at an east London pupil referral unit, writer-director Henry Blake’s powerful feature debut boasts a compelling central performance by Conrad Khan (nominated for the EE Rising Star BAFTA 2021) as 14-year-old Tyler, with strong supporting performances from Ashley Madekwe (nominated for Best Supporting actress BAFTA 2021) and Harris Dickinson.

MWFF County Lines David Broder 2023

County Lines Q&A with Producer David Broder – Friday 24th March 2023

Producer David Broder joined us for an informal Q&A hosted by young people from Motoiv8. We invited the young people to curate this evening’s film programme and they chose this film as they felt it spoke to them about the challenges they face growing up in the city.
