Wave Makers Creative Producers Lab 2025

Acting & Directing for Immersive Cinema Experiences

Saturday 8th February from 10 am – 4pm

Staggeringly Good Brewery, Unit 10, St Georges Industrial Estate, Rodney Rd, Portsmouth, PO4 8SS

In partnership with Mary Rose Productions

Join us for an exclusive one-day workshop exploring the art of acting and directing for immersive experiences. Led by renowned immersive theatre specialist Joe Hufton, assisted by Making Waves producer John Sackett and director Bradley Barlow, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to delve into the creative and explore the technical challenges of immersive storytelling.

Immersive experiences push the boundaries of traditional performance, requiring actors and directors to navigate non-linear narratives and interact directly with audiences—some of whom may also take on character roles. This workshop will equip you with the skills to create compelling, interactive scenarios that bring stories to life in dynamic ways.

What to Expect

  • Hands-on Learning: Develop scenarios, characters, and ideas for an immersive experience that will be staged during the Making Waves Film Festival in March 2025.
  • Expert Guidance: Work closely with Joe Hufton, a leading practitioner in immersive theatre, supported by MWFF team members John Sackett and Bradley Barlow.
  • Future Opportunities: Participants will be invited to take on roles in the March show, though it isn’t mandatory to join the workshop.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is perfect for actors and directors seeking high-quality CPD in immersive performance, as well as creative producers eager to deepen their understanding of non-linear narratives and audience interaction.
